How we do it, for a grown-up

How we teach it

If someone is in trouble close to the poolside, within arm's reach, we use a pull noodle. We get down to the poolside, kneeling down, and stretch out with the pull noodle, making sure that we don't get too close to the person struggling in the water, because they could get hold of you and pull you into the pool. That is why you are low to the ground. You then use the noodle to pull them gently to the side of the pool, talking to them all the time, trying to keep them calm, and telling them that you've got them. As they come to the poolside, you kneel up away from them and ask them to place their hands on the top of the poolside so that they can then be helped out safely.
